(Minneapolis) – The goal of TeamWomenMN, a professional development and mentoring organization based in the Twin Cities, has been to become “THE” professional organization for leadership development and mentoring for women in Minnesota. TeamWomenMN just took a significant step towards achieving that goal.

In April, TeamWomenMN announced plans to team up with Minnesota Women in Marketing & Communications (MWMC). The organization, which has provided networking and leadership opportunities for women for the past 11 years, will officially dissolve on June 1, 2018 and its members will become members of TeamWomenMN.

“TeamWomenMN and MWMC share the same goals – to provide top notch programs, diverse leadership opportunities and an environment that empowers women,” said Katy Burke, TeamWomenMN’s Executive Director. “We’re thrilled to be the solution for MWMC members.”

Co-founded by Pam Borton and Linda Hopkins, the genesis of TeamWomenMN started in the spring of 2011. Borton, then a seasoned and successful head women’s basketball coach at the University of Minnesota, was invited to be the keynote speaker for the Women in Business Awards Luncheon sponsored by the Minneapolis/St. Paul Business Journal honoring 50 top women executives.

As Borton delivered her inspiring and emotional speech on how important it was to support and elevate one another, her message was loud and clear – women need to support women. On the heels of delivering this motivational message – and with the support of many of the women who received awards that day – women came together and launched TeamWomenMN.

“Our strategic direction is to expand our organization statewide and, ultimately, nationally, and the joining of these two organizations is one way for us all to grow together,” said Burke. “Two additional areas of growth are to increase member diversity and expand our mentoring program by making it available to businesses and other organizations interested in a turn-key solution.

A Dec. 2017 survey conducted by TeamWomenMN reveals the majority of the organization’s members (83 percent) joined the organization to expand their networks, 32 percent joined to become a mentor or mentee and nearly 20 percent joined for the purpose of seeking job assistance. In addition, 63 percent of members take advantage of the organization’s networking events, 68 percent attend Power Luncheons and 50 percent attend the annual leadership conference. This year the leadership conference will be held on  Friday, May 11, 2018, from 8:30 a.m. – 5 p.m. at the Radisson Blu Mall of America, located at 2100 Killebrew Drive in Bloomington.
